Family Services Specialty Volunteer
Ronald McDonald House – Oak Street
Position Overview
Specialty volunteers help RMH family members recharge by providing relaxing and stress-reducing services. These volunteers work closely with the Family Programs & Activities Manager to organize a time where they can share their talents and skills with RMH families on an ongoing basis. Examples of specialty activities include haircuts/styling, spa services, healing touch, massage, reiki, yoga, mindfulness activities, or pet therapy. Volunteers can expect to:
- Work closely with the Family Programs and Activities Manager
- Assist with organizing, setting up, and cleaning up after the activity
- Interact with RMH families in a kind, respectful, and professional manner
- Lead your activity in an organized and accessible manner
Is the Specialty Volunteer role right for you?
Specialty volunteers play a large role in providing respite and support to families by working directly with the patients, siblings, and caregivers at the House to offer their talents and services. They prepare for their shift and are comfortable leading their activity independently. Volunteers must have:
- Valid proof of certification or licensure (if applicable) for their service
- The ability to communicate effectively with RMH staff, volunteers, and families
Typical Hours and Commitment
Our specialty volunteers have flexible schedule options and come in for a regular shift based on their availability. Schedule options are available seven days a week and vary from once per week to once per month. We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of one full semester, or 50 hours.
Training
All volunteers attend an orientation to receive an overview of RMH policies and will receive a tour of RMH-Oak Street on their first day. Additional training will be determined on an individual basis depending on activity-specific needs.
