Position Overview
Receptionists are the first friendly face that families, donors, and visitors see when they arrive to the House inside Children’s Minneapolis. This location welcomes hundreds of visitors each day! Volunteers set the tone for a welcoming experience with their outgoing and friendly attitudes. In a typical shift, a reception volunteer could expect to:
- Greet and assist visitors as they arrive to the House
- Check in guests
- Collect and file documents
- Accept and process donations
- Answer phones and provide general information about the House
Is the Reception Services role right for you?
Ronald McDonald House inside Children's Minneapolis is our second largest location with over 15 private rooms and just steps away from the intensive care unit. Reception volunteers play a large role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for families and visitors. Volunteers must be comfortable sitting for long periods of time, communicating with people from unique backgrounds, and interacting with each person that enters the house. This role is great for individuals with:
- Exceptional customer service and a warm, welcoming demeanor
- Attention to detail and flexibility to adapt to changing needs as they arise
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
Typical Hours and Commitment
Reception Volunteer shifts are typically 2-3 hours long and can occur during anytime between the hours of 8:30am-8:00pm. Volunteers commit to a recurring shift on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. We ask for a minimum commitment of one full semester, or 50 hours.
Training
An overview of your position will be provided during your orientation and House tour. On the day of your first shift, you will meet some of the RMH staff members who will be providing you guidance throughout your time in the House. More training and guidance will be provided during each shift as necessary.
